Volunteer

 

We ask people interested in volunteering in Ishinomaki and surrounding areas to attend the orientation  in order to fully understand the current situation in the affected areas and meet your team members in advance. It is also important to know what you will be expected to do, how to behave and what to prepare.

For volunteers going to Ishinomaki:

Please email us at relief(at)peaceboat.gr.jp and include the following information. At this time also please choose a departure date, ensuring that you can attend the relevant orientation, one week prior to departure.

  2. Age and date of birth
  3. Gender
  4. Nationality
  5. Address (For those living in Japan, please write address in Japan in Japanese if possible. For those  living abroad, please write your home address.)
  6. Telephone number (mobile number preferred if you are in Japan, home number if you live abroad)
  7. E-mail
  8. Requested orientation and departure dates
  9. Language ability (English / Japanese)
  10. Are you able to extend your stay? (If so, until when?)
  11. Have you volunteered with us before and if so, please state your dispatch date
  12. Are you able to ride a bicycle?
  13. Do you have a Japanese or international drivers license   (if YES, are you willing to drive in the affected area in case of an emergency?
  14. Occupation
  15. Emergency contact a) name-family members only, b) relationship to you, c) number and d) address (Can be in Japan or abroad.  For contacts in Japan please write address in Japanese if possible.)
  16. Do you have any chronic illness/allergy?

 

The orientation dates for Tokyo are as follows:

★May 19 (Sat) 13:00 – 16:00 for May 25 (Fri) – June 2 (Sat) dispatch – FULL (waiting list)

★June 8 (Fri) 17:30 – 20:00 for June 8 (Fri) – June 16 (Sat) dispatch – FULL (waiting list)

RESERVATION AND ATTENDANCE OF ORIENTATIONS ARE MANDATORY FOR ALL WHO WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER IN THE AFFECTED AREAS.

THOSE ARRIVING LATE WILL NOT BE ADMITTED TO THE INFORMATION SESSION.

Please note that the dispatch of international volunteer teams to the affected areas will take place once a month from April onwards.  This is due to the declining number of international volunteer applications. The Japanese-speaking volunteers are dispatched every week (Friday to the following Saturday). If you are fluent in Japanese, you have a choice of joining the Japanese-speaking team or the international team. If your schedule does not fit but you wish to volunteer in Ishinomaki in the future, we ask you to contact us again no more than 3 weeks before your desired departure date. The situation in Tohoku is constantly changing and departure dates can usually only be scheduled 3 to 4 weeks in advance.

For volunteers in Tokyo:

Orientations for those who wish to volunteer in Tokyo are held at Peace Boat Centre Tokyo in Takadanobaba every week. Please be advised that the information session for Tokyo volunteers is only in Japanese.  Please email us  at relief(a)peaceboat.gr.jp to reserve a place and check further details.

Our information is constantly being updated just as the needs and conditions are changing in the affected areas of Tohoku.  We ask for your patience and understanding when there are last minute schedule or information changes.  Peace Boat Disaster Relief Operations ensures a safe and efficient volunteer program for volunteers, organisers and the local community of the affected areas.
